In our youth, friends and I spent what seemed like endless hours on the beaches and in the surf of north San Diego county. During the summner, we literally were either in the waves or on the sand from dawn til night. Most of the days and the rides kind of blend to together now but certain ones remain crystal clear in my mind's eye and all of them together make a collage of beautiful memories. The title of this painting, a made-up word deriving from the Spanish "ola" for wave and the Latin or Greek prefix "tri" for three, refers to the overlay of three surfers on a single wave and board, of course, but, more essentially, the painting itself is meant to impart the glorious transcendence of those days.
